Learn and hone in Public Speaking Training
The first time I found out about TALKINC was from Instagram.Even though TALKINC had previously come to my office to give itpublic speaking trainingto one department, but I did not take part in the training because it was in a different department. At that time, the person facilitating it was Mas Erwin Parengkuan.Driven by the need to increase capacity, because in 2023, I was asked by the organization where I work to continue studying, but I chose a short course considering the busy schedule of office work. After discussing with my supervisor, the important part that I need to hone is good and systematic communication skills. From here I then looked for further information and finally joined the TALKINC class.
In the first class I took, namely Overview and Profile Mapping by Kak Edo, this made me very interested in honing my communication skills. After learning about various types of public speaking and the importance of understanding who the audience is, move on to the Opening class. In this class we learn how to carry out the opening of a public speaking using the GISI method. And then it goes into the core, namely the flow of mind. This class is facilitated with good energetic and analytical thinking by Mba Irina Dewi.We learned how to deliver presentation content in a focused, structured and complete manner. The most suitable method to use is WSN (what – so – now).It turns out that in this flow of mind or the core of the presentation, there are several lines of thought that I just understood, namely: Problem solving, cause effect, chronological and others –other. It's very interesting to have a variety of technical lines of thought. And finally is closing. This material is important to close the event interestingly, leave a deep impression and move people. In this section there are 3 methods: summary, recap and punchline.
Not only talking about presentation techniques, but we also learned the importance of having body language. In fact, body language is a very big presentation in influencing the audience. It's important to have a smiling voice, because it will be different if you have a flat voice. We were also taught by Kak Edo how to practice after being enriched by several learning sessions related to public speaking, including making good presentations. This session was also interesting because it helped me how to curate my power points into good and interesting presentation material. When doing public speaking there will of course be challenges, in this section we learn how to handle audiences. In this material, we study the risk mitigation to reduce negative things when we deliver the presentation whether in internal or external place.and finally, Mas Wahyu taught us how to develop presentation materials and complete presentation methods.
I am very grateful to be able to learn and be guided to become a good facilitator in public speaking. Before taking this course, I gave myself a score of three, and after taking eight sessions, I dare to give myself a score of nine according to my standards.Of course, I have to learn to practice this knowledge and share it and need to get input from peers or supervisors to continue to hone myself.Thank you to TALKINC, to the facilitators who are very experienced and kind in guiding me during these 2 months of study.
