Everyone's Communication Needs

Oleh Erwin Parengkuan

The noise of the world today with massive distractions makes it increasingly difficult for many people to communicate well.Frankly the harder they are to talk, the harder it is to sell a talking business like the one we run at Talkinc.Meanwhile, the need for clear and structured speech is the foundation of human interaction since past civilizations.

When we were directly involved in each training, I saw and concluded that there were 2 big problems that were often experienced between superiors and subordinates in communication and this gap was getting bigger over time, especially for workers in the professional world. From frontliners to top leaders, they have difficulty communicating.Subordinates are more concerned about the problem of low levels of self-confidence (fear of making mistakes, fear of offending people by choosing inappropriate words).Meanwhile, the average boss has too big an ego in communicating so they still seem authoritarian and tend to only want to be heard. Not to mention the prolonged bureaucracy, increasingly tangled communication within each organization.Apathy and resignation are increasingly seen everywhere.Imagine everyone walking alone without good cooperation.

Some time ago, I had the opportunity to conduct a group coaching session with 4 leaders at state-owned companies. In stark contrast, the leadership styles and speaking styles are different between those in the millennials and colonial categories. We know that generational differences also contribute greatly to communication difficulties. One of the leaders in the class looks stiff and authoritarian. He speaks firmly, his voice is strong and he is very adept at giving instructions.Meanwhile, one leader who came from the millennial generation seemed unresponsive and afraid of making mistakes. In fact, a leader today is required to be flexible and agile in seeing increasingly rapid changes. They must be able to build good "bridges" with their subordinates and have a big impact in every opportunity to talk and respect each other so that the organization they lead continues to grow.An organization that targets a target market of young people can absolutely communicate with their "style", not old-fashioned or even arrogant. It's no wonder that business is stagnating due to the lack of collaboration and good mutual trust in each other.

On a different occasion at lunch, a leader complained to me that it was difficult to move the team under him.Apparently when we were eating, he was enjoying tempeh mendoan and I missed taking it.I said "oh is there tempeh mendoan?"

Human quality is now decreasing, positions are not always commensurate with the competencies they possess.Sometimes the material we provide has to be lowered in relation to this.Sad!These experiences and stories are part of many trainings where in each training, an average of 80% of our participants live in Jakarta. The capital of a country with declining human potential. What about those in the area?District city?etc? As I also experienced teaching out of town with regional leaders who had master's degrees, it turned out that not all of them were able to speak English. In the end we had to replace all the material with Indonesian.Try to imagine in 10 years what the organization will look like if everyone in it is still struggling with communication problems?

Awareness to grow and develop is everyone's personal property, if this is fully realized and carried out continuously with self-analysis, and learning from lots of speaking content, seeing how cool figures appear, it should be a real inspiration. If you look for it yourself, there are lots of inspirational tutorials and role models, so that we know the things we have to have to speak interestingly and of course it will make us more successful. So there is really no reason to remain silent and just stick with the communication skills that you currently have.
